Villas-Boas looking to improve squad

A lack of backing towards AVBAndre Villas-Boas says irrespective of Champions League qualification he will get money to spend at the end of the season.

Spurs continued their quest for a Champions League place last Saturday with a cumbersome 1-0 win over Southampton but the race will go down to the wire with both Chelsea and Arsenal still battling for the two places.

The tame efforts against the St Mary’s club highlights the need for additions to the side and the boss claims how much they have to spend will not depend on where they finish in the league.

Villas-Boas said: “At the moment our future must be analysed in only one direction.

“For us, the objective is always to improve the team and for that to happen either we have Champions League money to make it easier, or we have to invest and risk a bit more.

“But the objective is always to better what you did last season. We have to have one direction only.”
