Tottenham fans question Lamela and Gazzaniga’s omission from Argentina squad

Argentinian boss Mauricio Pochettino has called on a few compatriots to aid his Tottenham cause over the years, many of whom have had vital parts to play at times in the season. His faith in his fellow countryman has seen one particular rising star, Juan Foyth, earn himself a call-up to the national squad.

Despite the odd shaky moment it’s been a season of development for the youngster, who looked more accomplished and comfortable on the ball as the weeks went by. Whilst he faces perhaps the toughest competition at centre-back in the whole of the Premier League, he’s been able to earn himself opportunities, trust from his manager and even adapted himself to the right-back role when called upon.

This improvement has seen him enjoy a call up to the squad, though there were two other Spurs players that fans were gutted not to see in group.

Both Erik Lamela and Paulo Gazzaniga have impressed when selected, though injuries have seriously limited the opportunities for the winger while the goalkeeper is facing stiff competition for one spot, and he’s up against France’s World Cup winning captain.

Perhaps the sheer lack of match fitness is what’s cost them their spot in the squad, but Spurs fans were quick to point out the exclusion of the two fan favourites…
