Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Wilmar Barrios for some time and following the Colombian’s World Cup performances, it’s clear to see what they’d be getting.
With Mousa Dembele looking like he’s exiting White Hart Lane this summer, Mauricio Pochettino is looking for a replacement and Barrios is made in a very similar mould.
The 24-year-old is a feisty central midfielder who has been cutting his teeth in the Argentinian Primera Division for Boca Juniors.
In the World Cup, he made three appearances for Colombia and showed himself to be a hardman that doesn’t take opponents likely.
He registered an impressive 12 tackles in three games, and made seven clearances and three interceptions for his country.
One thing Tottenham won’t want to sign Barrios for is his penalty taking after missing a key penalty in the Round of 16 shoot out against England.
The eight fouls he committed in three games shows he partakes in the dark arts of the game but without Dembele, Spurs could do with some bite in midfield next season.
Barrios is valued at £9million on Transfermarkt and could be a very shrewd signing for Tottenham if they’re looking for another ball winner in midfield.
