Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Barcelona defender and World Cup star Yerry Mina according to The Sun.
The Colombian centre back signed for Spanish giants Barcelona in January after impressing for Palmeiras.
However, the 23-year-old struggled to break into the first team and has only made five La Liga appearances to date.
Mina had a fine showing in Russia, forging a strong partnership with Davinson Sanchez and becoming the first defender to score in each of their first three World Cup matches.
Despite Colombia’s defeat to England on penalties, Mina has left Russia as one of the surprise packages of the tournament and now according to The Sun, Spurs and Everton are keen to sign the defender who Barcelona are willing to send out on loan.
It can be a dangerous game to sign someone solely based on their World Cup showing, but Mina looked every bit the part in Russia.
If Spurs have the opportunity to sign him on loan, there’s very little risk and he could prove to be a strong asset next season, used both as an attacking weapon and defensive stalwart.
If Alderweireld does leave Tottenham this summer, Mina could be the perfect replacement and his strong partnership with Sanchez could continue to blossom in the Premier League.
