Louis van Gaal has again opted to name Wayne Rooney is a midfield position for the Red Devils clash with West Ham, with Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao leading the line for Manchester United.
On the rare occasions when everyone is fit, the Dutchman has had a hard time fitting in all of United’s superstars with the likes of Angel di Maria, Juan Mata and the aforementioned trio all offensive-minded players.
van Gaal isn’t the first manager to deploy Rooney in a deeper role, with Sir Alex Ferguson toying with the idea fleetingly during his spell at the helm of the Red Devils, however, long-term it appears the former Bayern Munich views his captain as a midfielder.
That decision isn’t going down well with the United fans, and who can blame them when you realise the former Everton striker has 10 goals in his last nine Premier League games against today’s opposition.
@Elio_MUFC Rooney instead of Van Persie at striker and Herrera/ Fellaini paired with Blind would be better IMO

Looks like we need to accept that fact that LvG will always play Rooney in midfield. At the expensive of more creative midfielders…

@josh_mell rooney wasted in the middle

If we win it’d be 1 of the most important wins this season. But a midfield 4 of Blind, Angel, Rooney & Januzaj.. So attacking & lightweight

Don’t get why Van Gaal is playing Rooney at the right hand side of the midfield and Di Maria playing as a no.10… Why not swap them

Rooney in midfield? Okay? Why not Fellaini?
