It’s not often a three-goal deficit becomes the motivation for a 45 yard wonder-strike, but bucking that trend in superfluous style is QPR winger Matt Phillips.
It’s been a sorry afternoon for the former Blackpool star and indeed the entire west London outfit, who found themselves entering half-time three goals behind Crystal Palace.
That unsurprisingly killed the mood of the game, with Palace in full control and Rangers licking their wounds, until one moment of world-class, Puskas award-contending magic from the 24 year-old in the 83rd minute.
Picking up the ball just inside his own half, Phillips carried it just beyond the centre circle, took an almighty swing and audaciously rocketed an effort towards Julian Speroni.
The Palace ‘keeper hoped the shot would continue swerving over, but as it continually dipped at incredible velocity, he stood helpless to watch the ball crash into the roof of his net.
Needless to say, the QPR winger received a tirade of praise on social media:
