Jonny Evans is in a weird position at Manchester United at basically being the Red Devils’ most recognisable and senior central defensive figure.
With Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic being either deemed past it or seeking pastures new, David Moyes and then Louis van Gaal failed to replace the once imperious duo. The problem has been further emphasised this season due to United’s ever increasing injury list, particularly surrounding defenders.
At points this season Marcos Rojo, Luke Shaw and Chris Smalling have all faced lengthy spells on the sidelines, meaning relative unknowns Tyler Blackett and/or Paddy McNair have filled in alongside Jonny Evans.
Although with the full-time whistle fast approaching at White Hart Lane, with Man United still maintaining their clean-sheet, Jonny Evans doesn’t look like he is the long-term heir to Rio and Nemanja, as the footage below from today’s clash demonstrates.
