Manchester United fans present at the Etihad on Saturday will have to grit and bare a third City title win at some point this season. The most they can hope for is that it doesn’t literally happen before their very eyes.
The scene is set for Pep Guardiola’s men to secure the final three points required against their fierce rivals in what could be the earliest ever title win. Arguably, never has as much been at stake in a meeting between the two sides since City (sort of) relegated United in 1974.
Such a scenario was unthinkable as recently as the start of this decade and here, we look back at four occasions when a shift in power seemed impossible.
