Two things Watford have to address in the January transfer window

Watford’s 2019/20 season has so far been nothing short of a catastrophe and if something doesn’t change rather soon, the Hornets just might find themselves staring down the barrel of relegation.

But luckily for them, the January transfer window is closing in and the freshly-appointed Nigel Pearson just might dip his toes into the market and try and find the antidote for this disappointing campaign.

With that said, here are two things he should do in January to get the club out of trouble.

Buy a forward

And this doesn’t really come as a big surprise.

Watford have struggled in every department this season but their finishing, in particular, has been utterly woeful.

Calling all Premier League experts: Who do these unique statistics belong to? Find out below….

Which Premier League star does this statistic belong to: 178 games missed due to injury?

Just the fact that they have only scored 11 goals in 18 Premier League matches speaks volumes about that current problem. Their highest goal scorers this season are Andre Gray, Gerard Deulofeu and Ismaila Sarr with two goals each and they are in dire need of improvement in the forward line.

January can’t come soon enough for that.

Buy a defender

The Hornets don’t have a sting in attack but equally they are offering little by way of resistance in defence.

When you combine low goal-scoring with a leaky defence, you basically get Watford in 2019/20.

32 goals conceded in the first 18 matches played in the Premier League tells you all you need to know about their poor defensive record and, with just five clean sheets under their belts, something seems rather off in front of Ben Foster’s goal.

Craig Dawson was purchased in the summer to help patch things up but with just one tackle, 1.1 interceptions and 1.2 blocks per game, he hasn’t really offered the warrior-like presence they need to get out of their current situation.

Maybe going into the market and finding someone who could offer that would be a wise move for Pearson.
