Over 200 days had passed since Danny Welbeck graced a football pitch before he made his return on Saturday during Watford’s 1-0 defeat against Everton.
It’s never easy being a footballer and having to sit in the stands while your career slowly evaporates before your eyes. We know that ourselves from being huddled on the side-line on a cold Sunday morning, nursing an ankle injury that’s kept us out of the local derby versus the Cock and Pheasant (or any other generic pub name you can think of).
So for a professional, the fear of missing out must be unbearable, especially for one who has spent as much time out of the game as “dat guy Welbz”.
The 28-year-old took to Instagram to express his joy, gratitude and excitement following his debut appearance for the Hornets, and thanked the travelling fans for their warm reception at Goodison.

What a feeling getting back on the pitch yesterday in the Premier League! Thank you to the Watford fans for the great reception since I’ve arrived, along with the boys and staff at the club who have been great with me ?. Really excited to join this family club and to see what’s ahead in this new chapter. See you at The Vic soon ?? Welbz x

Former Arsenal teammate Jack Wilshere also responded.
Wilshere is a man who knows all too well about the trials and tribulations of an injury-laden career so one can be certain that, when it comes to sending messages of support, his remarks are truly sincere. Great stuff.
