Arsenal have done it! The Gunners have finally won against one of the ‘big boys’, won away from home and won in a manner that suggests they won’t be steamrolled again by the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.
Sure, City had an unfit Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure was away representing the Ivory Coast at the African Cup of Nations, however, the Argentine international never even got a sniff at goal and Arsenal’s midfield set-up a solid bank of three in front of the defence meaning Yaya would’ve had a hard time to go on one of his marauding runs.
After Santi Cazorla had given Arsene Wenger’s side the lead from the spot, City started the second-half with a bit more intent and you did wonder whether the Gunners would capitulate, however, credit where credit is due, the boys from north London held out and eased fears of throwing away the lead when Olivier Giroud made the most of Cazorla’s quick thinking from a free-kick.
The striker, in his usual suave manner, celebrated with aplomb, however, even Le Professeur got carried away in the moment and mimicked his goalscorer…
