Was yesterday a breakthrough moment in Arsenal’s mental toughness and realisation that you can’t only always play attractive football? Only time will tell.
Arsene Wenger, post-Invincibles, has suffered continuously at the hands of the Premier League ‘big boys’ – the sides they want to be challenging – with it all coming to a head last season with the 5-1 mauling at Anfield, the 6-3 defeat away at the Etihad Stadium and the embarrassing 6-0 loss to Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea.
It has been the Portuguese gaffer that Wenger has suffered at the hands of with particular frequency with their war of opens reaching boiling point after the former Real Madrid manager’s “specialist in failure” comments.
Following Arsenal’s uncharacteristic disciplined performance and victory away at the Premier League champions, there’s a growing belief that the former AS Monaco manager will finally get his own back on Jose and that Arsenal are ready to do battle with the ‘bigger’ teams once again.
