West Brom are back on track to achieve promotion to the promised land this season after back-to-back victories in the Championship, but a concerning revelation has been put forward by The Athletic’s Steve Madeley.
The Baggies are now four points clear of Leeds at the top of the table having put in a convincing display against Millwall, who they defeated 2-0 on Sunday afternoon.
It has banished their drastic run of form which saw them fail to win in seven straight league outings.
Central to their turnaround in fortunes has been Croatian playmaker Filip Krovinovic, but it has been revealed that his loan deal with the club from Benfica contains no option to buy.
In a post-game Q&A, Madeley replied to a question surrounding the 24-year-old, he said:
Krovinovic has started their last three matches in the number ten role, originally to deputise for the suspension 15-assist king Matheus Pereira, but even despite his return the midfielder has kept his place, forcing his fellow loanee out wide on Sunday.
Prior to that run, the Benfica ace had only managed to start 11 of 28 matches, so it only goes to show how he’s further earned the trust of manager Slaven Bilic and at the same time, helped steer Albion back on track with a goal and assist across his recent matches, per Transfermarkt.
However, it is rather concerning that the club does not have an option to buy the playmaker outright. It means his performances this campaign could attract the interest of others come the summer – if he keeps it up at least – and thus, the Baggies could become embroiled in a transfer tussle.
Which is something they don’t have to worry about with Pereira who will soon sign permanently for the west Midlands outfit.
Krovinovic is probably even more suited to the top-flight than the Championship too, as he will be allowed more time and space to work his magic in the heart of the pitch – he is currently dispossessed 0.8 times per game but has also managed one key pass per match too, via WhoScored.
But whether Albion and their loan ace will be together in the Premier League beyond this campaign remains to be seen.
