West Ham showing transfer reluctance… door open for Liverpool

West Ham have huge reservations about keeping Alex Song beyond his current loan spell, with the Cameroonian midfielder’s £80,000-per-week wages an issue, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The former Arsenal star joined the Hammers in a somewhat shock season-long deal last summer from Barcelona after two miserable seasons at the Nou Camp.

A number of big sides passed up the opportunity to offer him an escape route, and it appeared initially as if their loss was very much the Hammers’ gain, with the 27-year-old having enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign.

Song was widely heralded as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League before the winter period, but the Irons’ decline has coincided with a dip in performance from the African ace.

And now the London club are thought to be having second thoughts about keeping him, despite claims earlier this season that the club want him of a full basis.

A major factor is the player’s £80,000-per-week salary, which is beyond the reach of the Upton Park side.

The news may lure Liverpool into the running, with the Merseyside club having been keen on him during January.
