Besiktas spokesman, Metin Albayrak, has revealed that West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has told him he has no interest in signing Mario Gomez.
The Hammers’ striker search has led to links with the veteran German forward, who has recently returned to Fiorentina following a productive loan spell at Besiktas.
Gomez netted an impressive 26 goals in Super Lig action as the Istanbul giants claimed the title, and followed that up with two strikes for his nation at EURO 2016.
However, despite his performances over the course of the last 12 months, Albayrak told the Dogan News Agency (via CalcioMercatoWeb) that he’s been assured by Bilic that the 31-year-old hit-man is not a target for the Irons:
“This morning I spoke on the phone with Slaven Bilic, who assured me that West Ham United is not interested.”
Albayrak went on to reveal that Besiktas still hope to re-sign Gomez, but that interest from big clubs is making that difficult:
“We still hope to have him with us, and so do our fans. But it is very difficult, we are following the situation closely and we know that Mario is in contact with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund.”
Gomez is a vastly experienced forward with title wins in Germany and Turkey under his belt.
