West Ham United are hoping to sign Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley on loan for the second half of the season, as reported by The Mirror.

Chelsea have so far ruled out a loan switch, per the report, but the hope is that Barkley will push through for the move to be made.

This comes with the England international having made just six starts and one substitute appearance in the Premier League this season before the weekend's action.

With the chance to represent England at a European Championship on the line, he may be keen to move somewhere where he'll be able to get more regular game time.

If the move is completed, it would see David Moyes and Barkley reunited. The midfielder was involved with the Everton first-team in Moyes' last two campaigns before leaving Goodison Park in 2013.

While it'll be good for the pair to be working together again, there will not necessarily be the familiarity that may be expected, as Barkley has turned into a very different player since then, as can be shown by the statistics below.

During the 2012/13 campaign, Moyes' last as Everton manager, Barkley spent a short period on loan at Leeds United, but was also used by the Toffees, totalling two starts and five substitute appearances in the league.

This followed his breakthrough campaign that featured two starts and four games off the bench.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings....

During that season, perhaps in an effort to prove himself, Barkley made more defensive contributions than he has this time around, averaging 0.3 more tackles and 0.6 more clearances per game, as shown above - he also managed 0.1 more interceptions and 0.2 more blocks.

However, there is a definite development on show in his game on the ball now, when compared to what he produced all those years ago.

The 26-year-old now makes 1.3 more key passes, 0.7 more dribbles and is fouled 0.5 more times, while he's also improved his pass success rate by 8.2%.

FFC has already suggested that Moyes will have a dilemma regarding how Barkley is used if West Ham sign him, but it is clear that the Scotsman won't be able to heavily rely on his past experience of managing the midfielder when making that decision.

Meanwhile, West Ham fans fear losing their "pocket rocket" permanently.
