West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini has been speaking to the media ahead of their London derby with Fulham, and noted how recent results will not create false optimism.

What’s he said?

In his pre-match press conference, per reporting by Football.London, Pellegrini noted that while his side are enjoying a great run of form – winning their last three – he is keeping a level head.

"Well we are improving, there is no doubt, and the results say that," the Chilean noted. "We are scoring goals, it is not easy this season to win three games in a row and score three goals in each game, but we must be very careful, things in football change quickly.

"We must continue to work in the same way that we are doing now. In our worst moment, I always said the same.

"We are improving, playing in the correct way and now we must try to keep the good results."

What did he mean?

The emphasis Pellegrini placed on things in football changing quickly, and a focus on continuing to work, suggests the 65-year-old doubts his side’s current form will last over a prolonged period.

It was the first time in 682 days that the Irons had won consecutive matches when they beat Newcastle and Cardiff, a run stretching back to January 2017, and followed the double with three more points at home to Crystal Palace last Saturday.

At least this acknowledgement will keep his Irons grounded, rather than letting results get to their heads and allow complacency to slip into their performances.

The right man for the next level

This mentality from the coach, especially ensuring the squad continues to work hard after a few good results, is further evidence that Pellegrini is the right manager for the West Ham dugout.

Under Sam Allardyce they lost their identity, with Slaven Bilic at the helm the Hammers soared and fell out of the sky as quickly as they got there, and when David Moyes took charge the bubbles were never inflated, let alone floating in the air.

Pellegrini is a high calibre coach that can get West Ham back up the table, but when injuries have torn apart his side as much as they have and Felipe Anderson getting off to a slow start, that initial four-game losing streak will pale into insignificance given a chance. Anderson certainly doesn’t appear to be looking back with five goals in his last six games.
