Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will return to the Premier League ‘within months’ to join West Ham or Leicester City, according to pundit Alan Brazil.
The broadcaster believes that Rodgers will leave Celtic this season after dominating Scotland’s top-flight for the past two years and adds that the former Liverpool boss would be a great candidate for a managerial post in the Premier League.
Brazil, in particular, believes Rodgers is likely to end up at Leicester City or West Ham as he is not convinced that the fans are fully content with the managers currently in place at the clubs – which is a bold call given the Hammers handed Manuel Pellegrini a three-year deal in the summer.
“I reckon Brendan could walk before the turn of the year. It depends on the right opportunity coming along – that means a decent Premier League job,” Brazil told The Sunday Post.
“If a West Ham or a Leicester City got in touch, the Hoops boss would have a big decision to make. For me, they are the two obvious clubs that Celtic should be wary of at the moment. West Ham fans aren’t convinced that Manuel Pellegrini is the man to sort their problems out.
“I also hear that Leicester fans are far from happy with how things are going under Claude Puel. If either of them came to Brendan in the next wee while and said: ‘We’ll give you a Premier League salary and big money to spend in January’, he would be tempted. Brendan would be a great candidate for any of them.”
Pressure on Pellegrini rose during West Ham’s run of four defeats at the start of the Premier League season but the former Manchester City boss has given himself breathing room following the 3-1 victory over Everton on Sunday.
From the board’s perspective, replacing a manager they handed over £100m of transfer funds to in the summer so soon would be a horrendous piece of business.
