David Moyes has denied that West Ham United have made a bid for Nottingham Forest's Matty Cash, as reported on the Sky Sports Transfer Centre (26/01/2020: 09:30).

What did he say?

It has previously been reported by Sky Sports that the Hammers had made a £12m bid for Cash, who has impressed in the Championship for Forest this campaign.

The 22-year-old has made 26 league starts and one substitute appearance, predominantly at right-back, scoring two goals and adding four assists.

While this has been enough to turn the heads of those at West Ham, if Moyes is to be believed, they haven't been wowed enough to make a bid, as he said:

“It’s my understanding that we didn’t make a £12m bid for Matty Cash, we made some enquiries, as far as I know we didn’t make any offer.

“I don’t know who is saying we made the offer, I think a lot of people are saying we make offers. But I genuinely don’t think we’ve made an offer for Matty Cash. He’s a good player mind.”

Says it all

If there was one comment used to summarise the Hammers' entire transfer window, then this is probably it.

They have shown admiration for plenty of players throughout January, as is best signified by the fact that they had a list of six midfield targets, before Tomas Soucek was added to it.

However, absolutely no conviction has been shown this window, because if it had been, Darren Randolph would not still be West Ham's sole January acquisition to date.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

On Saturday, they were knocked out of the FA Cup by a Championship side - albeit a high-flying one - while sitting above the relegation zone on goal difference.

If that is not a sign that action needs to be taken then there isn't going to be one. Sitting back and saying "he's a good player" will do absolutely nothing for West Ham.

Meanwhile, the Hammers are already eyeing up a summer move.
