Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has hailed West Ham United star Declan Rice, per The Daily Telegraph.

What’s he said?

The two midfielders have both been called up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euro 2020 qualifiers against Bulgaria and Kosovo.

Rice and Mount, the report states, began their careers at Chelsea together when they were boys; the former, of course, was released by the Blues and picked up by West Ham United.

And Mount, who is making his breakthrough under Frank Lampard at Stamford Bridge, believes that he can learn a lot from the Hammers star.

He said: “It shows what he is like as a boy.

“He has that fight and that desire. To be knocked down and released by what is his club – he has always supported Chelsea from a boy – is tough, and tough to come back from.

“He has done that and I definitely think I can learn stuff off him. I am always speaking to him.”

Already leading by example

Rice has been an excellent example of what can happen if you get your head down and work.

Chelsea rejected the midfielder and that already looks like a major mistake on the part of the Blues.

Now an indispensable member of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad, Rice has made 74 appearances in total for the club and already has three caps for his country.

Mount, of course, is only just coming through and has made a total of five appearances for the west London side but he already looks to be a major talent; he scored against both Leicester City and Norwich City.

He can have few better role models than his friend Rice.
