West Ham United fans were pretty excited about the prospect of signing Gedson Fernandes when rumours first emerged linking him with a move to east London, though they were also feeling some scepticism.

It turns out that the latter emotion was well placed, as it now seems like the 21-year-old will be heading to Tottenham Hotspur.

Following his tweet declaring the news, ExWHUemployee also added that this means the Hammers will now be looking at alternative midfield targets.

There are various West Ham fans who are not surprised to see the Portuguese midfielder is likely to join Spurs instead of moving to London Stadium.

One referred to them as "a bigger and better club than us with a better manager", while another questioned why an exciting prospect would want to come to "Laughing Stock United".

David Moyes' appointment was not a popular one when it first happened, and it seems as though the feeling is that having him at the helm will not be helpful in trying to complete ambitious moves.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

Seeing the transfer take this turn has forced fans to question the board once again, while questioning the club's size, as one stated "we need to accept the club we are".

The feeling is that the Hammers will end up with Joe Allen, who has previously been linked with a move by Football Insider.

It has even been suggested that the Fernandes links were only ever a tactic used to "placate the fans" rather than being a genuine effort to sign the midfielder.

Meanwhile, one West Ham man had an especially frustrating game against Sheffield United and it's not Declan Rice or Robert Snodgrass.
