Maxi Gomez wants to move to West Ham United but the Hammers face competition for his signature, per Sky Sports.

What’s the word?

The club have been attempting to sign the striker throughout the summer, with Football FanCast sources understanding that Director of Football Mario Husillos remains in lengthy negotiations with the Spanish club.

And the new report claims that the Uruguay international is keen on the move.

Sky claim that a fee of £29m has already been agreed but that personal terms have yet to be agreed.

That tallies with a separate FFC report, as the club are looking to shift the likes of Javier Hernandez from the wage bill as they look to finance new signings.

Valencia, per Sky, are also interested, but are struggling to finance the swoop.

A necessary signing

West Ham really need to get this one over the line.

Gomez scored 13 goals in 35 La Liga appearances last season and the Hammers are desperately short in the striking department.

Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll have already left the club, while Chicharito could also leave and Marko Arnautovic is the subject of interest from China.

It is conceivable, then, that the Irons could lose all four of the strikers that made up their forward department last season in this transfer window.

A deal for Gomez, then, must be a top priority.

FFC understands that manager Manuel Pellegrini has specifically requested the deal be done and Husillos remains in talks with the Spanish club. He must beat Valencia to the punch.
