West Ham United manager David Moyes spoke about the team's performance against Manchester City, as reported by The Athletic.

What did he say?

The Hammers' performance was gutless against the reigning champions, as they failed to make any real impact on the game.

At times, it felt as though they were simply watching Pep Guardiola's men pass around them until the ball got near the edge of the box. The fact they had just 22.7% of possession and also failed to register a single shot on target summed that up.

However, Moyes seemed pretty satisfied with his team's performance, as he said: “I think we were really well-organised defensively, with good organisation. The structure we set up was to make it difficult for Man City.

“With the quality they have got, there will be very few teams come here [to the Etihad Stadium] and be open. We have seen lots of teams do that. We did a decent job. Not good enough to get any points from the game [but] there were some bits of defending that were very good.

“Man City played very well on the ball. Yes, we gave them the ball sometimes but we tried to make it hard when it mattered and we ended up conceding from a corner and could have stopped the second.”

Pathetic comments

To state that "we tried to make it hard when it matters" and "we did a decent job" is pretty ludicrous from the Hammers manager.

The 2-0 scoreline was very flattering for the away side, as so much of the ball was with Man City, which saw them eventually take 20 shots. If the likes of Gabriel Jesus had been more clinical it would have easily been a larger margin of defeat.

Is life under Gold and Sullivan really that bad? Maybe this quiz will change your minds, West Ham fans...

If making it difficult for the men in sky blue was the aim then they failed miserably, because it was probably one of the most comfortable games they will play all season, as hinted at by the pedestrian pace of the encounter.

Therefore, Moyes coming out after the defeat and speaking as though his side did their job well, pretty much encouraging the fact they rolled over and accepted defeat, encapsulates the gutless nature of their performance on the day.
