Roshane Thomas has slated West Ham United midfielder Manuel Lanzini after his performance against Everton, when speaking during a Q&A on The Athletic.

What did he say?

The Argentinian has made 10 starts and six substitute appearances in the Premier League this season, but is still yet to score a single goal - though he has made two assists.

There will have been hope that he could end the barren run against Everton, but it wasn't to be the case, as the Hammers relied on a goal from centre-back Issa Diop to eventually earn them a point.

His performance was not appreciated by Thomas, who said:

"Based on Lanzini's current form he needs to be on the bench for the next game. He doesn't warrant a place in the starting eleven anymore. Yet to score in the league this season and he isn't creating enough chances."

Invisible man

That damning indictment from The Athletic journalist comes after a performance in which Lanzini was invisible.

This is shown best by the fact that he didn't manage to make a single shot, key pass or dribble, before being substituted for Albian Ajeti in the 84th minute.

It is also a discouraging sign that he had 4% of the game's overall possession, a number that only beat Issa Diop, Pablo Fornals and Sebastien Haller out of West Ham's outfield starters.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

Considering the 26-year-old was the more progressive midfielder in terms of positioning, it would have been expected for him to be the team's main creative hub, but he would need to actually get on the ball to do that.

David Moyes has selected Lanzini to start both of West Ham's most recent games, but Thomas has suggested that he should come back out of the team due to just how ineffective he has been.

Meanwhile, West Ham fans could look foolish after turning down a loan move for a Serie A midfielder.
