West Ham are set to loan goalkeeper Roberto out to Alaves, as reported by ExWHUemployee, something which is a damning indictment on Mario Husillos.

What's the story?

The Hammers goalkeeper is supposedly close to completing a move to the La Liga outfit until the end of the season, with West Ham still heavily subsidising his wages.

This decision has been taken with the hope that the Spaniard will be able to perform to a high level, putting himself in the shop window for a permanent move away.

How quickly this has happened offers an indication of just how poor the 33-year-old has been in a West Ham shirt, which is also backed up by the fact that Darren Randolph was recruited in the January transfer window.

Damning indictment

Roberto has been shocking in goal since joining the Hammers, conceding 17 goals in eight Premier League games, with errors such as his failed punch against Burnley heavily contributing to that number.

Having been the man to bring him in, the failure of this move within such a short period of time is a damning indictment on Husillos.

The now-departed Director of Football showed a severe lack of care when making this move, as FFC previously revealed that sources couldn't confirm whether the Hammers actually even watched the stopper before signing him, instead just going off of Husillos' word.

Call yourself a West Ham expert? How much did each of these January signings cost?

It's even more shocking that it was suggested he had even initially been the first-choice option ahead of Lukasz Fabianski.

The fact the scenario has played out in this way, with the club having to send him out on loan while still paying a large chunk of his wages, offers an indication into how poorly thought out the move was.

Before Husillos left, it was reported by Football Insider that he wanted to resign because of the criticism he was facing, but it is difficult to see how he could be surprised by that after recruiting someone as incompetent as Roberto.

Meanwhile, West Ham could come to look very foolish after snubbing a loan move for Serie A midfielder.
