After signing nine new players in the summer, not many would have predicted that West Ham United would be dipping back into the market come January.
It is unclear if the club’s co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold are willing to spend, but recent reports suggest that manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to bolster his midfield.
According to The Mirror, the East London outfit are keen on taking Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan from Chelsea for the rest of the season.
The report claims that Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is against the idea and wants to keep the midfielder in his squad.
Many assumed that Loftus-Cheek would kick on from the World Cup after impressing for England in Russia.
However, he struggled to break into Sarri’s team and it has only been in the last three matches that he has been given a chance.
If West Ham are able to weaken Chelsea’s stance and land Loftus-Cheek, who has scored four goals this season, then who in Pellegrini’s midfield may have to make way?
Robert Snodgrass has been making a big impression in more of an advanced central role in recent weeks, but should the 6ft 3in ace arrive at the London Stadium his Irons career would surely be over.
