According to reports in The Express, West Ham United are plotting a double January raid for Arsenal duo Jack Wilshere and Olivier Giroud.

What's the word, then?

Well, while the Gunners pair have featured heavily in the club's Europa League campaign this season, they have both struggled for minutes in the Premier League and both will be considering their futures as they look to play regularly with the World Cup just six months away.

The Express says that Irons boss David Moyes is ready to offer them an escape route from the Emirates Stadium, as he looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the January transfer window.

Wilshere – whose contract runs out next summer – and Giroud actually made their first Premier League starts of the campaign in the goalless draw against the Hammers at the London Stadium on Wednesday night, having impressed as substitutes against Southampton three days earlier.

How have the duo done this season?

Even though Giroud has mainly been restricted to substitute appearances in the top flight, he has still scored four goals in 14 appearances – including a late equaliser at St Mary's last weekend – while he netted three times in Arsene Wenger's side's Europa League campaign.

Meanwhile, Wilshere played the full 90 minutes in five of Arsenal's six games in Europe, but he has only played 176 minutes of Premier League football, which included the full 90 against West Ham on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old has been deployed in a more attacking position than perhaps he had played previously for the Gunners, and he provided an assist in the 5-2 win against Everton at Goodison Park in October.

Would they be good signings for West Ham?

They certainly would be.

Both have shown that they have the quality to perform well in the Premier League and in Europe, while they have plenty of top flight experience as Moyes looks to steer the Irons away from the relegation zone.

Keeping Wilshere fit will obviously be the prioritiy if he does move to the London Stadium, while they know they would be getting a motivated Giroud with the Russia World Cup on the horizon.

Convincing Wenger to sell them in January could be an issue though, especially seeing as they both started on Wednesday night.
