According to The Sun, West Ham United are prepared to sell Reece Oxford to Borussia Monchengladbach in the January transfer window.

What's the story?

Oxford, 18, is currently on loan at Gladbach from West Ham, having joined the Bundesliga outfit ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.

The teenager struggled for football in the early weeks of the season, but has impressed in recent weeks, and made his full Bundesliga debut against Freiburg on Tuesday night.

Indeed, Oxford played the full 90 minutes of his team's 1-0 defeat.

According to The Sun, Gladbach have been impressed with the youngster's development in recent months, and are interested in signing him on a permanent deal in January.

The same report claims that West Ham are prepared to discuss a move for Oxford, and could accept an offer in the region of £6m.

It would be a shock, no?

It does seem a touch bizarre that West Ham would allow one of their brightest prospects to leave for £6m during the half-way point of a season.

Oxford had been tipped to return to the London Stadium early after struggling in the opening weeks of the campaign, but his situation has now changed at Gladbach.

There might well be a situation where the Hammers could include a buy-back clause, although that deal would also have to work for Gladbach.

Oxford burst onto the scene in 2015 after impressing away to Arsenal on the opening weekend of the season, and signed a five-year contract on his 17th birthday, with Manchester United said to be keen on the midfielder at the time.

It is certainly a situation to watch over the next few weeks, but it makes little to no sense for West Ham to sell for such a small fee next month.
