It was Javier Hernandez who stole the headlines on Sunday, finding the net against Chelsea for the ninth time in his career and the fifth time after coming on from the bench to seal a surprise point for West Ham at Stamford Bridge, the visitors previously recording just two touches in the opposition box.

But it's being quickly forgotten just how autonomous Chelsea were over the game for the first hour, when West Ham were doing their best to halt the flow of one-way traffic towards Joe Hart's goal. The Irons dug deep and did well to keep themselves in the game for long enough for Hernandez to make an impact from the bench, in an expertly timed substitution from David Moyes, and captain Mark Noble played a huge part in that.

Indeed, Noble made the most tackles, the most interceptions, covered the most ground, had the most touches of the ball and completed the most passes of any West Ham player on Sunday, and that mixture of defensive resilience and economic ball use in midfield proved to be pivotal.

Not only did it keep the Irons in the match despite going a goal down, but it also provided the platform for Hernandez to enter the fray from the bench and score; as the Hammers skipper and Cheikhou Kouyate began to overturn Chelsea's dominance in midfield after the interval, Moyes sensed the time was right to bring the Mexican poacher on.

His hunch was correct and West Ham now find themselves six points clear of the relegation zone, with just six points remaining. But it hasn't been a hugely happy season for the 30-year-old, who Transfermarkt value at just £6.3million, so should signing an upgrade be one of West Ham's transfer priorities this summer?
