West Ham have reportedly made an approach for Celtic midfielder Olivier Ntcham, and he could just be the perfect replacement for Cheikhou Kouyate.

What's the story?

According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), West Ham have made an enquiry about Celtic’s promising French midfielder, who scored in the Champions League qualifier against Rosenborg on Wednesday.

The report claims the Hammers have simply asked how much it would cost to sign the 22 year-old, as they look to revamp their midfield.

Both Pedro Obiang and Kouyate have been linked with moves away, so signing a rising star like Ntcham makes perfect sense for the Hammers.

What's all the fuss about?

After progressing through the youth ranks at Manchester City, Ntcham spent some time on loan in Serie A before moving north of the border. He can do a little bit of everything in midfield, but perhaps his best trait is his ability to add goals from midfield.

When it comes to young players, so many of them progress to a certain point and then fall by the wayside because they don’t have the end product to back up their talent. Ntcham is having no such problem with Celtic, grabbing nine goals and six assists last season as a 21 year-old.

Most of his goals come from the type of area Frank Lampard used to score from, arriving just in to bury first time finishes from the edge of the box. Goalscoring isn’t all he gives though, as the youngster seems to have developed a keen eye for a pass under Brendan Rodgers. He is absolutely brilliant at drawing defenders in with his driving runs from midfield and then slipping the ball to an open teammate.

Pellegrini has already added proven and prolific talents this summer like Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson this summer, so the next step is replacing some of the old guard with young and hungry players, Ntcham is athletic, energetic, and loves grabbing goals from midfield. He may not be a sure starter right away, but he has potential to be the kind of hero in East London that Lampard was.
