West Ham United are in advanced talks to sign AS Roma midfielder Steven Nzonzi until the end of the season, as has been reported by Football Insider.

What's the story?

The Frenchman, who has represented his country 14 times, is currently on loan at Galatasaray but is keen to leave the Turkish giants having fallen out of favour with them.

This has led to West Ham pouncing to sign him on an initial loan deal for the remainder of the season, as they look to stay in the Premier League.

David Moyes is said to be keen for the World Cup winner to join the Hammers, due to his power, athleticism and experience, which includes 195 Premier League appearances.

It is suggested that the Hammers have held talks with various midfielders throughout this window, but these are the negotiations in which a breakthrough is being made.

Much-needed addition

West Ham are in desperate need of another midfielder being signed, due to the fact that Carlos Sanchez is the only real back-up option to Mark Noble and Declan Rice.

This comes despite the Colombian only playing 113 minutes of Premier League football this campaign.

He also offered a reminder that he can't be trusted during the FA Cup loss against West Bromwich Albion, getting the worst WhoScored rating of any player on the pitch with 5.1.

Where is he from?! Can you name which obscure countiries these famous players have represented?

Nzonzi has shown that he can be a useful option in the midfield during his five appearances in the Champions League.

In those games, the 6 foot 5 midfielder has been an effective defensive presence, winning 3.2 aerial duels per game, while also making 1.6 tackles, 0.6 interceptions, 1.6 clearances and 1.2 blocks.

In addition to that, he has shown his capabilities on the ball, maintaining a pass success rate of 85.4%.

The Hammers would be filling an area that it is absolutely imperative they address if they do bring the Frenchman into the club.

Meanwhile, David Moyes' comment summarised West Ham's entire transfer window.
