Old boy set for short term West Ham return

Carlton Cole

Carlton Cole is set to sign a three month deal at West Ham in the next few days to ease their striker shortage, according to the Daily Mirror.

The 29 year old was released by the Hammers in the summer but after no club came in for him, West Ham allowed the former England striker to train with them to gain his fitness back up.

Having come through 90 minutes in a behind closed doors defeat to Charlton on Thursday, Cole is set to put pen to paper on a three month contract at Upton Park.

Club record signing Andy Carroll is set to return around Christmas and other freebie addition Mladen Petric is also close to full fitness, giving boss Sam Allardyce some real attacking options.

Allardyce didn’t even play a striker in the Hammers’ stunning 3-0 victory at White Hart Lane against Tottenham last weekend but Cole could be back in the squad for when Manchester City come to Upton Park next Saturday.
