West Ham United are in talks with French champions Paris Saint-Germain over a potential deal to sign Argentine playmaker Javier Pastore this summer, according to Sky Sports.

What's the story, then?

Sky Sports report that Manuel Pellegrini wants to bring a host of new faces to the London Stadium this summer to get his reign off to a flying start and the Hammers are talking to the French giants about the prospect of signing Pastore.

They also claim that the deal could be worth up to £17.5m as PSG battle to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations this summer ahead of another assault on the Champions League next season.

It also states that Pastore has just one year left on his current contract at Parc des Princes, so a deal could well be there to be done.

Pastore would add excitement

It is difficult to judge the current level of players like Pastore; clearly they are doing something right to remain at an elite club like PSG but they are not playing regularly enough to make a reasoned assessment.

However, in an era when even the average fan has access to boundless information and footage of players across the globe, the slight mystery around Pastore and the fact he would be joining from a giant club like PSG would add excitement among the West Ham fans.

Attacking football and excitement were what they were promised when the Hammers moved to the London Stadium and Pellegrini will bring that provided he can bring in elite talent.
