West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has denied that the club are interested in signing Roma's Edin Dzeko in January, as quoted by Football.London.

What's the word?

Despite spending in excess of £100m in the summer, Manuel Pellegrini's West Ham are struggling for form and have lost five of their eight Premier League matches so far this season - suggesting another fight near the foot of the table lies ahead.

While Marko Arnautovic, Andriy Yarmolenko and Felipe Anderson have shown signs of developing an exciting attacking line, the lack of a recognised centre-forward has been an issue and has led to reports that the Hammers are eyeing Roma's Edin Dzeko.

However, quoted by Football.London, Pellegrini has denied eyeing a reunion with a player he managed during the pair's time at Manchester City.

What was said?

"I cannot answer you about the amount of payers who are coming in to West Ham. At least you can talk about five or six players, lots of players want to be here and are linked to West Ham. I know him very well but we are not thinking about him at the moment."

Should they move?

Dzeko may boast 50 Premier League goals from his time with Manchester City but, at 32, he is well into the twilight years of his career and signing the Bosnia and Herzegovina international would echo the Hammers' previous mistakes in the market.

Javier Hernandez was signed last summer from Bayer Leverkusen, another striker who boasted a decent record from his previous stint in the Premier League but has struggled to establish himself as the leading man at the London Stadium.

West Ham could encounter similar problems by signing Dzeko and should be eyeing a younger, more exciting forward if they are keen on bolstering their attacking ranks.
