West Ham United are looking to sign Middlesbrough goalkeeper Darren Randolph, as reported by ExWHUEmployee on the West Ham Way Podcast 163.

What's the story?

The Republic of Ireland international, who was at the club between 2015 and 2017, is said to have undertaken a medical ahead of a proposed move.

A scan has shown that the 32-year-old has a similar hip problem to those that Lukasz Fabianski and David Martin have been suffering from, as reported by the insider.

This comes with the goalkeeper having been unavailable for all of Middlesbrough's last nine Championship matches.

Flawed strategy

Going in for Randolph is a ludicrous decision, considering he has exactly the same problem that contributed to the downturn of West Ham's season when Roberto came into the side.

A disregard for injury records from the Hammers is nothing new, acting as something that has negatively impacted the club in recent times.

Two notable examples of this come with the signings of Andy Carroll and Jack Wilshere.

The first of those had missed 14 games with two separate injuries during a loan spell in 2012/13, but was signed to a permanent deal anyway.

In the six seasons that followed, the striker went on to miss a further 137 games through injury, indicating that the club probably should have taken note of the warning signs from his original loan.

Did he really play for us?! No West Ham fan has managed to name all of these obscure Irons signings....

Between the 2010/11 and 2016/17 campaigns, Wilshere had missed a total of 151 games through various injuries.

However, West Ham still proceeded to sign him and since he joined the club, the midfielder has already been absent from 43 matches.

This shows how detrimental that way of thinking has been for the Hammers, as they have had players on the wage bill who were unable to contribute on the pitch because of their inability to stay fit.

Even now, Wilshere is struggling to come back from a pelvic issue, as reported by The Daily Mail, despite scans showing no major problem.

Considering the above, it seems bizarre that West Ham are going for another player who could turn out to have injury issues of their own.

Meanwhile, West Ham have received a potential injury boost ahead of their clash with Sheffield United.
