Manuel Pellegrini has already embarked on a defensive overhaul at West Ham that includes the acquisitions of Ryan Fredericks, Issa Diop and Fabian Balbeuna but he reportedly has his sights set on World Cup finalist Domagoj Vida.
Turkish outlet Fanatik report that Besitkas have turned down a £22m bid for the Croatian international but Pellegrini is readying a second offer, so determined is he to land a third central defender of the summer.
Combined with Diop and Balbuena, current options Winston Reid, Angelo Ogbonna and Declan Rice would appear to give the former Manchester City boss ample choice at the heart of his defence, but the continued pursuit of Vida suggests Pellegrini believes otherwise.
Reid will miss the start of the season through injury but Football FanCast asked West Ham fans whether Vida would represent an upgrade when both men are fit.
The Hammers do not think so, with 58 per cent of them claiming that Reid is a better defender, sending a clear message to their new manager that they do not want Vida to be the latest defender to arrive at the London Stadium.
