West Ham fans have been discussing who they should sign to replace their outgoing midfielders, and a surprising 71 per cent of fans think former Gunner Francis Coquelin would be a shrewd signing.

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers are in “advanced talks” to sell Obiang back to Sampdoria.

Sky Sports have since claimed that the Hammers would like to keep the wiry midfielder, but if the player feels his first team opportunities will be limited he could still head back to Italy.

It seems like if Obiang does leave then the first choice to replace him is Southampton’s Mario Lemina, and West Ham fans think they should make it a double swoop by adding Coquelin.

Coquelin now plays for Valencia, and averaged 2.2 aerial wins, two tackles, 2.2 interceptions, and 2.6 clearances per game in La Liga last season.

Adding the tough tackling Frenchman to the potential capture of Lemina would allow the Hammers to let both Obiang and Cheikhou Kouyate leave.

Fans clearly think it’s a good idea, as 71 per cent voted for the move. You can find the full poll results down below…
