West Ham fans have been debating the future of Declan Rice, and the overwhelming majority want last season’s young player of the year to keep his starting spot.

It usually goes without saying - if a youngster breaks through into the first team and is crowned young player of the year, then they should keep their place in the team.

However, West Ham are set to be extremely busy in the transfer market this summer, and Issa Diop could be the first of two or even three defensive signings this summer.

With James Collins leaving the club at the expiry of his contract and Winston Reid going completely off the boil, the Hammers have been strongly linked with moves for both Alfie Mawson and Marlon Santos, both of which could potentially jump above Rice in the centre back pecking order.

Of course, Rice’s versatility means he could slot into the midfield instead, but Manuel Pellegrini is expected to add to that department as well.

Fans have been voting on where Rice should play next season in the midst of all these potential moves, and a whopping 73 per cent said he should keep his place in the eleven.

Whether it be as a defensive midfielder or at the heart of defence, fans are clearly hoping to see a lot more of the wonderful 19 year-old, and you can find the full poll results down below…
