Both Aaron Cresswell and Arthur Masuaku have struggled defensively when they have played at left-back for West Ham United this season, and perhaps it is time for manager Manuel Pellegrini to test out another potential option.
Cresswell and Masuaku are both probably better from an attacking point of view than they are in terms of their defensive work, and the latter in particular struggled as the east London outfit’s three-match unbeaten run in the Premier League came to an end when they were beaten 1-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion before the international break.
With Pellegrini seemingly likely to continue playing four at the back, he does have a potential solution to the huge issue at the moment in the form of Angelo Ogbonna.
The Italian is struggling to break into the starting XI in his preferred centre-back position right now, but he played at left-back on a number of occasions for former club Torino previously and certainly has the defensive nous and enough pace to be a success there for the Hammers as well.

We decided to ask Irons fans to vote on our poll to see whether they feel the 30-year-old could do an effective job in that position, and a majority 74% believe that he would – as you can see from the results below.
It would certainly be a bit of a risk to try Ogbonna at left-back in the upcoming clash against arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur, but in a game where they could be required to defend more than they attack it could be the perfect time to experiment.
