Jamie Redknapp recently stated in his Daily Mail column that he believes Manchester City would be wise to target West Ham United’s Declan Rice as the long-term successor to Fernandinho.
The 19-year-old has been a revelation for the Hammers this season in providing control and defensive cover to the midfield. It would hardly be surprising if he really had caught the attention of Pep Guardiola.
If the reigning Premier League champions took Redknapp’s advice and did decide to launch a move for Rice, the Irons would be able to command a fee far in excess of Rice’s £13.5 million Transfermarkt valuation.
Manuel Pellegrini would be able to demand big money in return for the young midfielder’s services. Those raised funds could then be reinvested in the squad.
