Revealed: Majority of West Ham fans want club to try and sign Stephan El Shaarawy

West Ham United secured their Premier League survival as their 2-0 win against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium – coupled with other results – left them safe with two fixtures still left to play.

Attentions will now turn to strengthening a squad that perhaps should have never been involved at the wrong end of the table, and that is paramount considering three established top flight clubs look set to go down this term.

One of the priorities for the east London outfit could be to finally find a replacement for Dimitri Payet – their supporters don’t want Xherdan Shaqiri from relegated Stoke City – and someone that can improve the Irons’ fortunes in the final third in terms of goals and assists.

Roma winger Stephan El Shaarawy certainly impressed in his side’s 4-2 Champions League semi-final second leg win over Liverpool last week, and he has nine goals and a further eight assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for the Serie A giants during the current campaign.

We asked West Ham fans to vote on our poll to see whether they would back what would be an audacious move for the 25-year-old, and 77% said they would as they want to see progress made.

While the Hammers could probably meet the player’s wage demands and potential transfer fee if they loosen the purse strings a little, convincing him to come and play with no European football on offer would ultimately be their biggest challenge.
