The World Cup always has a knack of bringing the qualities of talented footballers to our attention, even ones we’re already well acquainted with. Aaron Mooy had a talismanic effect on Huddersfield’s survival bid last season as the tenacious yet creative driving force in their midfield, and the Australian international impressed during his opening World Cup outing in the 2-1 defeat to France as well.
And that combination of abilities, Mooy’s passing vision and technical quality with real grit when protecting those behind him, makes him something of a rare breed. These days, most midfielders are either playmakers or play-breakers, but Mooy’s a little bit of both.
That could make him the perfect fit for Manuel Pellegrini’s new-look West Ham side, with the Chilean gaffer usually employing a 4-2-2-2 setup that demands much from the central midfielders who will often be outnumbered by three-man engine rooms – accordingly needing to balance out their defensive and offensive obligations with real maturity.

So we asked West Ham fans earlier this week whether on that basis the east London club should be moving for the 27-year-old, and according to our poll 68% of Irons supporters would welcome a transfer swoop this summer.
