According to results from our recent poll, the majority of West Ham fans would like to sign Besiktas’ Gary Medel as a solution to their midfield crisis.
Turkish media outlet, Milliyet, reported earlier this week that Manuel Pellegrini is keen on signing the 31-year-old and that his current club are close to green-lighting the transfer with a deal close to being struck.
The Hammers have already made their mark on the January window as they announced the arrival of Samir Nasri on day one and the Frenchman will offer another option in the attack; a more pressing matter, though, is the lack of cover at the base of midfield.
Declan Rice has been sensational for the Irons this season but, with Carlos Sanchez out injured and Mark Noble far from enough of a physical presence, the Irishman is in need of some help. Meanwhile, Ryan Fredericks and Fabian Balbuena have also been sidelined, leaving the London Stadium outfit stretched thin at the back, too.
A versatile enforcer capable of playing alongside Rice or in the rearguard, we think signing Medel is an absolute must this month – it turns out most West Ham fans agree, as 75% voted in favour of bringing him to the Prem.
