One of the problems that West Ham United have been dealing with this season is the lack of bite in midfield.

Jack Wilshere was bought in the summer window with the hope that he would revive his career following an injury-plagued spell at Arsenal.

However, the England international has struggled to make a significant impact.

Mark Noble has also been struggling to influence matters on the pitch, and it has since been revealed that the Hammers missed out on signing young Benfica midfielder Joao Felix.

During the summer window, Sky Sports transfer blog (August 6, 10.32am) reported that the club were in talks with the 18-year-old regarding a transfer.

However, it never came to pass, and now Portuguese publication Record are claiming that his agent Jorge Mendes is trying to get a release clause worth more than £100m inserted into a new deal at Benfica.

If that agreement is reached, then it is virtually impossible that West Ham will be able to pursue the youngster.

With that being said, we asked you if the Premier League club have missed out on a top star, but the majority of fans polled are not convinced.
