Robert Snodgrass' West Ham career looked to be over before it had truly begun. Just six months into his time at the London Stadium, having previously arrived from Hull in January 2017, the Scot was loaned out to Aston Villa with just eight Premier League starts in claret and blue under his belt.

To make matters worse, whilst the 31-year-old was with the Villans, and notably still a West Ham player, Irons co-owner David Sullivan revealed that his kids 'begged him' not to sign Snodgrass, and later said that the club would be targeting younger players as opposed to 'old journeymen' - a quote seemingly aimed at the £10m midfielder as per the Evening Standard.

Despite that harsh treatment, Snodgrass returned to east London after losing the play-off final with Villa and was surprisingly part of new boss Manuel Pellegrini's plans. Well, on the fringes of them until more recently.

If we are to look at the two games before Saturday's domination of Crystal Palace, against Newcastle and Cardiff, the Hammers scored six goals with the Scottish international assisting half of them whilst earning rave reviews; against the Eagles, however, all of his hard work came to fruition.

The former Leeds man earned an 8.29 rating by WhoScored for him performance, in which his stunning equaliser just three minutes after the interval put his side firmly back in the game. Two goals in three minutes followed from Javier Hernandez and Felipe Anderson in the 62nd and 65th minutes respectively, although it was Snodgrass who set the tone.

His one shot on goal brought the equaliser, as aforementioned. Additionally, his three key passes gave the Eagles' backline something to think about, whilst his three successful dribbles gave Pellegrini's side an impetus from midfield.

Aside from what he added to the Hammers' attacking play, Snodgrass also made two successful tackles and recorded an 80% passing accuracy throughout the game, using the ball wisely when in possession of it.

West Ham have now won their last three Premier League games, scoring three goals in each of them, and a huge part of those victories has been their unlikely Scottish hero who is rebuilding his career in east London one game at a time.
