According to reliable club insider @ExWHUemployee on Episode 94 of The West Ham Way radio show, West Ham United are considering making a summer move for Lyon attacker Memphis Depay, rated at £40.5m by Transfermarkt, and some Irons fans have been quick to react to the rumour.
@ExWHUemployee says that Manuel Pellegrini is ready to bring the former Manchester United flop back to the Premier League, with a deal for Lazio’s Felipe Anderson proving to be more than problematic.
The Netherlands international is said to be keen to prove himself in England again following a brilliant campaign for the Ligue 1 outfit, in which he scored 22 goals and provided a further 18 assists in 51 appearances in all competitions.
Some West Ham supporters, others of whom have urged Manuel Pellegrini to sign a £22.5m-rated World Cup hero, have taken to social media to give their thoughts on the link, and while one said he is “the player we should have signed when Payet left”, another said “I think Depay would become a cult hero”.
Here is just a selection of the Twitter reaction…
Would be a TOP signing for us. Sadly I think right now he’d have his sights aimed higher with Lyon being in the CL

He’s arguably better than Anderson

I think Depay would become a cult hero here…has a bit of a bad boy attitude but is a class footballer can’t see Lyon selling him and Fekir though….Thauvin flopped at Newcastle so not sure about him! But again can’t see it happening

Depay is the player we should have signed when Payet left. Pacey, tricky & amazing freekicks/delivery. Closest thing to a young Payet in European football (& would have got him for half what he’d cost now).

Would be a great move
