Roma forward Stephan El Shaarawy impressed in his side's 4-2 win against Liverpool in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final tie at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday night, and West Ham should consider making an audacious move for the £18m-rated attacker this summer.

The Irons have struggled to find a replacement for the creative Dimitri Payet since he left nearly 18 months ago, and the Serie A star could be the man to fill the void for the east London outfit.

The 25-year-old was an unused substitute for the first leg at Anfield last week, but he was handed a starting role on their own patch as they looked to fight back from 5-2 down.

The Italy international certainly played a role in the first goal his team scored in the Italian capital as he beat Trent Alexander-Arnold in the air, before Dejan Lovren's clearance ricocheted off James Milner and into the back of the net.

El Shaarawy continued to cause Alexander-Arnold plenty of problems before he was taken off 15 minutes from the end, having three shots at goal and successfully completing two dribbles, as per WhoScored.com, while he showed his quality on the ball with two key passes and an overall passing accuracy of 84%.

Stephan El Shaarawy stats vs Liverpool

With nine goals and seven assists in 42 appearances in all competitions for Roma this season, as well as his trickery on the ball, there is no doubt that the 25-year-old could effectively replace Payet at the London Stadium.

While West Ham, who are reportedly interested in signing another attacker in Mariano Diaz, would probably be able to afford his wages and his price tag, convincing him to join them will be difficult unless they are ready to show some ambition this summer.
