According to a report in the Northern Echo, West Ham are one of a number of teams showing interest in Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic.
The Northern Echo claim Newcastle have slapped a £20million price tag on Aleksandar Mitrovic, and West Ham and Wolves are “keen” to sign the Serbian.
Mitrovic was forced out of Newcastle due to a lack of discipline but has excelled on loan with Fulham, and will have clubs queuing up to sign him if they don’t get promoted.
There is also interest from the Bundesliga, and a successful World Cup could push his price up, so the Hammers must act quickly to secure the Serbian striker.
With David Moyes’ future currently uncertain, it’s anyone guess what happens to Javier Hernandez.
The Mexican striker is clearly out of favour with Moyes, but if the Scotsman leaves it could open the door for Hernandez to return.
That said, the Hammers would be wise to make a move for Mitrovic regardless of what happens with Moyes and Hernandez.
Though he has never really excelled in the top tier, the 23 year-old’s form for Fulham is simply fantastic, grabbing 11 goals in 13 Championship matches.
Mitrovic is strong, passionate and he certainly knows where the back of the net is. An attacking trio of Manuel Lanzini, Marko Arnautovic and Mitrovic would be a daunting proposition for any defence in the league.
Valued at £7.2m by Transfermarkt, the Hammers might be overpaying slightly at £20m, but Mitrovic could be everything fans hoped Andy Carroll would be and more.
