West Ham fans have cause for concern as Marko Arnautivic’s latest reveal could derail the Hammers’ season.

The Austrian forward is a vital part of Manuel Pellegrini’s side at the London Stadium, and without his goals could be in a dire situation.

Currently, West Ham sits on seven-points after the opening eight rounds, in which the club have won on just two occasions.

Most notably, the East London club was able to shock last seasons runners up, Manchester United, by winning 3-1 thanks to goals by Felipe Anderson, Arnautovic and an own-goal by Red Devils centre-back Victor Lindelöf.

Without those three-points, the 29-year-old forward would be leading the line of a side just a point outside a relegation zone that features three teams all yet to win.

In the summer, the Hammers ironed out new deals to see over £100million worth of players join, but are yet to see the money spent produce results.

Marko Arnautivc’s latest revelation that he is playing with a knee injury could cause serious damage to West Ham’s season, as without the forward’s involvement goals have been hard to come by.

The former Stoke forward featured in 35-games across all tournaments last season, having joined West Ham in the summer for what was a club record fee of £20million rising to £25million with add-ons.

In those matches, the Austrian was accountable for 11 of the 48 league goals scored, matching the tally of the Irons’ other strikers combined.

When the forward announced he was playing with an injury ahead of the Northern Ireland clash on Friday in the UEFA Nations League, he said: "The knee is not the best but I am fit and I can play.

“I'm not training a lot at West Ham to try and [keep] my knee calm.

"It is going to take some time as I have some inflammation in my bone but I am always ready to play on the weekend.”

If West Ham continues to play Arnautovic despite the injury to his knee, the risk of further damage could escalate.

Unfortunately, Manuel Pellegrini faces a tough decision should the forward need a weekend off.

In his debut season at the London Stadium, the Austrian was the only player to reach double figures for goals.

Fellow summer signing Javier Hernandez shipped in his fair share with eight, but beyond the Mexican, the next highest scorers were midfielders on five, four and three.

Ex-England international, Andy Carroll, is expected to return from injury at the end of October, but the 6 foot 4 striker has only ever reached double figures for goals once in his Premier League career, back in the 2010-11 season when he was still playing for Newcastle.

Deeper than Carroll in West Ham’s locker may lay the answer to their problems, with Michail Antonio’s versatility a tool they can once again utilise.

On the back of the international break comes two London derbies against Tottenham Hotspur, one in the league and one in the Carabo Cup, as well as what currently are must win matches against fellow early strugglers Huddersfield and Burnley.

Ruling out another upset against a Manchester club when City visit on November 24, the best chance to rest Arnautovic and still stand a chance is to call upon the right-back come midfielder’s ability to also play at striker.

The Wandsworth born Londoner previously has performed miraculously in this position and put in a Man of the Match display against Spurs when he scored the only goal of the tie back in 2016.
