Three reasons West Ham must hijack Newcastle’s bid to sign Jonathan Viera
According to reports in The Telegraph, Newcastle United are one of the Premier League clubs interested in signing €20m (approximately £17.8m-rated) Las Palmas attacker Jonathan Viera during the January transfer window.
The Telegraph says that the Magpies, along with Burnley, are two of the English top flight teams keen on the 28-year-old, who will be allowed to leave the bottom-of-the-table La Liga outfit this month.
Their poor season follows on from an impressive 11th-placed finish term, which Viera proved to be an influential part of, and even though the attacking midfielder’s contract isn’t due to run out until 2021, The Telegraph says the Spanish strugglers are ready to cash in on him before the window slams shut on January 31.
Meanwhile, West Ham United moved out of the relegation zone following their last-gasp 2-1 home win against West Bromwich Albion on Tuesday, but they are still positioned precariously above the bottom three in what looks set to be hard-fought battle to escape the drop.
Manager David Moyes will be determined to strengthen his squad this month in order to aid his side’s survival bid, and bringing Viera to the London Stadium could prove to be a shrewd move.
